UBC Spokesperson, Rafsanjan Abbey Tatya confirmed the news of his death this morning describing it as a great blow to the company and Uganda’s sports fraternity.
Andrew Patrick Luwandaga has been a sports journalist working with national broadcaster Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) television, where he was the head of the sports and current affairs department.
Rafsanjan Abbey Tatya has described the late Luwandagga as a skilled and hardworking person who has made a significant contribution to the nation.
“The body of the deceased has now been taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a postmortem”, said Mr. Tatya.
At the time of his death, Luwandagga was in negotiations for the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) tournament due next year and the Africa Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, Patrick Kanyomozi, the General Secretary of the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has described Luwandagga’s death as a serious blow to not just the sports fraternity but the broadcasting industry as well.
Mr. Luwandagga indeed inspired mentored many Ugandans since 1981 when he joined Radio Uganda, today UBC. May his soul rest in peace!
