Andy Murray is an internationally acclaimed tennis player who won Wimbledon and Olympic titles in 2016, both for the second time. He became world number one, and was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year for a record third time.
Murray is actually one among a total of 1,197 people that were on Friday, December 30, 2016 recognized for their achievements in the New Year Honors list.
Whereas the majority of these are largely unknown to the wider public, among them that got recognized and knighted so, included Mo Farah, a runner –who completed Olympic “double double” by retaining 5,000m and 10,000m titles at Rio Games, in his remarks he said, “I’m so happy to be awarded this incredible honour from the country that has been my home since I moved here at the age of eight. Looking back at the boy who arrived here from Somalia, not speaking a world of English, I could never have imagined where I would be today – it’s a dream come true.”
For all that were honored, they undertook such outstanding work in their communities or simply excelled in their fields of expertise.
