Court dismisses suit challenging President Museveni’s sole candidature. In a 4-1 ruling, Deputy Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo of the Constitutional Court, Thursday, July 2, 2020, dismissed the application by 11 NRM-leaning MPs, arguing that there was nothing constitutional for them to interpret
NRM lawyer Kiryowa Kiwanuka in celebratory mood tweeted almost immediately: “….the petitioners challenged the actions conducted in compliance with the party constitution, the court found no issue for constitutional interpretation and struck it out.”
The counsel’s law firm shortly reaffirmed the news in a tweet, which means that Uganda’s ruling Party NRM will be protected by a court ruling as they nominate the Incumbert President for another term in office since 2006.
